Blackbeak Keep is the former residence and stronghold of the Blackbeak Witch-Clan.

Description[]

According to Sarah J. Maas's Pinterest, Blackbeak Keep is a tall, dark fortress located among black mountains, surrounded by layers of heavy fog.

While the exact location of the Keep is never mentioned, it may be located somewhere in either the White Fang Mountains or the Ruhnn Mountains. The Witch Kingdom is uninhabitable by the Ironteeth, and there are no other mountain ranges close to the Ferian Gap. Alternatively, it may also be located in the Staghorns, Anascaul, or Ararat mountain ranges.

History[]

The Keep's age is never stated, but it was the home of the Blackbeaks for at least 100 years, as Manon Blackbeak mentions that she was sixteen when she killed her first Crochan and brought the witch's heart to Blackbeak Keep.[1]

Almost twenty years later, Asterin Blackbeak was hunting Crochans near the Fangs and went down in a storm; she was found by a mortal hunter and later fell in love with him. When Asterin was called back to the Keep, she discovered she was two months pregnant. She carried the baby to term in the Keep, but ultimately gave birth to a stillborn witchling and was brutally branded by the Matron.[2]

When magic fell, the power that the Blackbeaks and other Ironteeth used to fly on their brooms disappeared and they became useless. Ten years later, the King of Adarlan offered the Ironteeth a chance to reclaim their home if they fought for him; the Blackbeaks were the first to be approached and spread the message to the other clans and covens. As the Blackbeaks were required to report to Morath for their new wyvern training, Blackbeak Keep was abandoned.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Manon's old broom, rendered useless by the disappearance of magic from Erilea, was left behind in the closet of her room at the Keep.[1]
    • Asterin's broom was also left somewhere in the Keep.[3]
  • According to Manon there is a hoard of gold stored at the Keep.[2]
